Lecturer in Creative Writing

I’m a writer, researcher, teacher and publisher in creative writing at the University of Melbourne. I wrote a PhD on the critical-creative nexus in J. M. Coetzee’s novels, and in 2013 published my fictocritical book Reading Coetzee. I teach Graphic Narratives, Theory for Writing, and Short Fiction, and supervise a range of higher degree research projects across the Creative Writing, English, and Education disciplines. With graphic novelist Pat Grant, I co-direct the Comic Art Workshop (www.comicartworkshop.com.au), an annual residency for comics-makers. With Erica Wagner and Bernard Caleo, I co-direct Twelve Panels Press (www.twelvepanelspress.com), a graphic novels publishing company. My writing and research currently centre on autobiography, the critical-creative nexus, and graphic narratives, particularly those that are Australian, non-fiction, and/or involve illness and medical stories.
