Nicola Streeten is anthropologist-turned-illustrator and author of Billy, Me & You (Myriad Editions, 2011) the first graphic novel to receive a British Medical Association award (2012). It was also the first long form graphic memoir by a British woman to be published. The book was included in Comics Unmasked, 2015, at the British Library, London. Artwork from the book was in Comix Creatrix: 100 Women Making Comics 2016 at The House of Illustration, London the biggest UK exhibition of women comic creators and in the exhibition, The Great Graphic Novel, 2016 at the Cartoon Museum, London. Nicola co-founded the international forum Laydeez do Comics and chaired the first symposium of the British Consortium of Comics Scholars in 2015 with a Research Led Initiative award from the University of Sussex where she is researching towards her AHRC supported PhD. Her research is The Cultural History of British Feminist Comics from 1970 focusing on the role of humour in disseminating the feminist message.
