Pen Mendonca
PenMendonca - Graphic Facilitator and Artist Graphic Facilitator
Pen is an independent graphic facilitator, sketchnoter and cartoonist with twenty years experience of working in the UK public and voluntary sectors, her graphics, comic strips and animations are widely published. She works in mainstream and special provision, on student/staff engagement and strategic facilitation. Prior to becoming self-employed Pen worked in social care.
Pen’s spicy family background includes dramatic tales of love and loss from Asia, England, Ireland and New Zealand, as such she has a strong interest in the representation of race, ethnicity, gender and disability, and supports the Windrush Day campaign. Pen teaches at University of the Arts London and the Royal College of Art, her practice-based PhD (Central Saint Martins), considers Values-Based Cartooning as a method for accessing and representing diverse accounts of single motherhood. Pen's academic work has been published in Studies in Comics, Women: A Cultural Review and by Demeter Press, her up and coming book will be published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers.
